UNIHEAL

UNIHEAL: Contextualising UNIversal HEALth resilience through health professionals’ re-skilling for digital health services provision

UNIHEAL is a two-year programme funded by the ERASMUS+ Programme of the European Union and aims to develop vocational education and training opportunities on digital skills for health professionals. The project is being conducted by a consortium of seven (7) partners from five (5) European countries: Spain, Lithuania, Romania, Cyprus and Greece.

The digital transformation of health care is a key focus of the European Agenda to modernize and improve healthcare and resilience across Member States. The Covid-19 pandemic accelerated this transition as during this crisis health services delivery was fragmented and health care professionals were at the centre of maintaining continuity and high standards of care despite the environmental disruptions. The current pandemic highlighted the importance of digital health education and care delivery as key elements for building resilience within health systems. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) reported that currently, there is insufficient training on health digital technology or digital literacy of health professionals which may affect the quality of health services delivery. Although the need for digital skills is widely acknowledged, there are limited or inadequate digital health programmes targeted to health professionals. Upskilling and reskilling health professionals on digital health technology will enable them to adapt to the digital health services provision era and prepare them for potential future disruptions in health care delivery.

In this context, the program aims to design an educational program and develop a platform of digital tools to address the digital technology needs of health professionals and to equip them with the appropriate skills and resources.
