30/06/2014
An Info Day regarding the reduction of social inequalities in health will be held at the Prolepsis Institute of Preventive Medicine, Environmental & Occupational Health, on Monday, 30 June 2014, at 11:00, in its headquarters (Fragokklissias 7 Maroussi). The event will present the Program on Food Aid and Promotion of Healthy Nutrition –DIATROFI as a case study of a best practice in the European Program “DRIVERS for Equality in Health”.
Representatives from Greece’s political leadership and private and public sector have been invited to join the event, which includes the presentation of both the “DRIVERS for health equity” and the DIATROFI programs and deliberation on the issues at stake among participants. The aim is to identify and map effective policies for the support and implementation of programs that help alleviate social inequalities in health.
DRIVERS (2012-2014) is a three-year research project funded by the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union (FP7) and aims to promote health equity through policy and practice in early childhood development, employment & working conditions, and income & social protection. The program is coordinated by Eurohealthnet, headquartered in Brussels, while organizations from the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden as well as the Prolepsis Institute from Greece, are also participating.
The DIATROFI Program, which was presented as a best practice in Greece, is implemented for the third consecutive school year by the Prolepsis Institute, with a main grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and under the auspices of the Ministry of Education. Given the Program’s track record in addressing food insecurity and childhood obesity, the Info Day participants will discuss the expansion and extension of DIATROFI, both at national and at European level.
