Elpida Velmahos from Boston University concluded her internship at Prolepsis

September 29, 2017

We were honored and happy to have had Elpida Velmahos in the Institute’s team during summer 2017.

Elpida is a recent graduate of Boston University. She completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Physiology as well as two concentrations in Spanish and Public Health. Currently, she continues her studies as a Masters of Public Health candidate at Columbia University, concentrating in Health Law and Health Policy Management. During college, Elpida was involved in a variety of projects related to public health, including working on a paper focusing on the Afforadable Care Act and most recently on the opioid epidemic in America, at Brown University. Last summer, she volunteered at the refugee camps in Chios, Greece which solidified her decision to further her studies and pursue a career in public health, namely in health law and policy.

At Prolepsis, Elpida was involved in variety of projects run by the Institute. Her focus was on MigHealthCare program, which aims to address public health issues (access, education, resources etc.) of migrant and refugees and aims to bring multiple European countries together to jointly work on this issue. Elpida’s focus was on Greece.

“I could not have asked for a better internship experience! The opportunity to be involved with multiple projects at once was refreshing from single focus projects I have participated in the past. This gave me the opportunity to dip my toes into the many (but hardly close to all) different areas of public health simultaneously. It really gave me a glimpse of an exciting future this diverse career field has to offer! It was an honor to work with such passionate, talented, and kind people and I know without a doubt that the experience I gained during my internship here will guide and assist me in all my future endeavors!”

We would like to thank Elpida for her contribution and wish her the best of luck in all of her future endeavors.
