Conference on Migrants and Health Actions: The Prolepsis Institute in Portugal for the presentation of PROMOVAX

On May 12 and 13 Prolepsis Institute participated in the Migration and Health Conference which took place in Lisbon and was organized by the Directorate General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE), the Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency (CHAFEA) and the Directorate-General of Health from Portugal. 

The conference aimed to facilitate the exchange of good practices, in order to address migrants health needs. These practices are implemented in the context of action of the EU program for Health

Mrs. Konstantina Zota, Health Promotion Specialist and Co-Director of Research and Head of National Programs of the Institute presented the program PROMOVAX “Promote Vaccines among Migrant Groups in Europe” at the session “Communicable diseases prevention among migrants in the E.U.”. The promotion of vaccination among migrant groups, the reduction of social inequality in health and the eradication of diseases that can be prevented by vaccination, constitute the main objectives of PROMOVAX. In the context of the program, educational material was developed for health professionals (in 8 different languages) and for migrants (in 12 different languages). Delegates of scientific institutions, National Schools of Public Health, NGO’s, and also members of the World Health Organization and of the International Organization for Migration participated in the conference.
