Vocational Training and Educational Tool Development for Data Managers in Screening Programmes – TRENDS
European Commission: Leonardo da Vinci Programme
This project responds to the continuously increasing need to employ trained health professionals with special knowledge in setting-up, managing and monitoring cancer screening programmes. Through the implementation of the project, we developed the appropriate curriculum, educational tools and support system for data management and analysis of screening programmes.
All educational material was pilot tested in a course addressing data managers and computer analysts working within screening programmes, paramedics and interdisciplinary health professionals. The delivery of the course demonstrated clearly the large diversity of educational background among professionals working in data management which hinders the harmonisation of reporting data from screening programmes, leading to difficulty of evaluating such programmes in the European context. This course provides all the necessary tools for achieving comparability of data from screening programmes which will provide useful information on the provision of secondary prevention services in the European Union.
