HeaRT and Prolepsis Institute in the book “First Do No Harm” – Reporting on Health and Healthcare

A special reference was paid to the scientific team of Prolepsis Institute and their role in the Institute as the coordinating partners of the European project “Health Reporting Training – HeaRT ", in the book" First Do No Harm "- Reporting on Health and Healthcare". The book is a very useful tool for any journalist that specializes in the health sector. This is the first comprehensive publishing effort at a European level, for the specific matter, which significantly enhanced the information and the training required for responsible media coverage of issues related to health. In the book of John Lister (journalist and professor at the University of Coventry) for the first time concentrated relevant literature, and important information for articles and scientific publications related to this field of journalism was given to the public.
The book is divided into twenty two chapters which contain a collection of articles by scientists and industry experts that specialize in the field of health communication. The 17th chapter entitled, «Reporting on Consumer and Lifestyle Health Issues» is the collective work of the scientific team of Prolepsis Institute (Aphrodite Veloudaki, Dina Zotas, Pania Karnaki, Athina Linos and Eleni Papadimitriou), which analyzed issues related to the influence of media on the contemporary consumer of medical products and services, their role in the dissemination of information and the transmission of messages that have a negative impact on health related factors in the modern world etc.
The book also makes a reference to the Program HeaRT, which was implemented as part of a community action of the Education, Audiovisual & Culture Executive Agency – Lifelong Learning: Leonardo da Vinci, Grundtvig and Dissemination. The program was implemented with the coordination of Prolepsis Institute but also with the cooperation of five key players from Germany, Finland, Estonia, Romania and the United Kingdom. The program"Health Reporting Training – HeaRT" aimed at developing integrated educational tools and programs targeted to journalists that cover health related issues.
