\n| \n\t\t\t\tWith the message "Help me Live", the Institute of Preventive Medicine Environmental and Occupational Health, Prolepsis, organized a special fundraising event to help the children in Gaza. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\tThe event took place on Sunday, 15th of February 2009, at the DAIS Theatre, Doukas School and was greeted with great success by a very broad audience. Individuals, artists, representatives of the Greek political parties and diplomats from the Arabic embassies and India attended the event. The members of the Academy of Athens, Mr Kontopoulos and Mr Krimizis, the well known singer Mr Manolis Mitsias and the Mayor of Amarousion, Mr George Patoulis were among the attendees. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\tThe Minister of Health and Social Solidarity, Mr Dimitris Avramopoulos opened the event and congratulated the Institute for this initiative. Deeply moved he underlined that he talked as a father and not only as a Minister stressing the significance of always being there for the children. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\tReading an extract from a poem of Mrs Kiki Dimoula, which deeply touched both the audience and Mrs Dimoula who was present during the event, Dr Dimitris Linos, professor of surgery, talked on behalf of Prolepsis. Dr Linos noted that the event aims to help children, "the children of Gaza today, the children of Congo, of Uganda, of Colombia, of Sri-Lanka tomorrow, the children that could as well be ours". <\/p>\n \t\t\t\tMrs Rodi Kratsa, 1st Vice President of the European Parliament, was the first speaker. Mrs Kratsa stressed the significance of such events for children and underlined the fact that no help to the Palestinian people will be efficient unless Gaza blockade is lifted. She also mentioned the recommendations she has made regarding this issue to the European Parliament. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\tMr Panos Moumtzis, Director of United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees' Affairs in Syrian Arab Republic (UNRWA), expressed his gratitude thanking the Institute for organizing this initiative. He mentioned that during the 20 days of the attack, 1,200 people were killed, among which 410 children, and more than 1,000 children were injured. Many of them will need treatment for the rest of their lives. Mr Moumtzis also presented the UN plan for restoring critical services to refugees in Gaza. Among their priority areas of intervention is education, housing reconstruction and job creation. He mentioned especially the food assistance programme which includes providing food for children of the 200 UN schools in the area. Closing his speech, Mr Moumtzis wished that UNRWA one day will stop to exist, as that would mean that all the problems in Gaza would be solved. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\tHis experience from visiting Gaza as head of Doctors' Delegation to Gaza shared with the audience Dr Aris Mousionis, "the doctor that just came back from Gaza". Dr Mousionis graphically described the fear that was pictured in the children's eyes and talked about the gratitude expressed by the local population for the Greek help. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\tThe Palestinian ambassador to Greece, Mr Samir Abou Ghazaleh, was the last speaker of the event. He expressed his wish that the money spent on this war was spent for a different cause, such as scientific research, and stressed the need for peace in Gaza, "peace for our and their children, for our and their grandchildren". <\/p>\n \t\t\t\tDuring the event that was coordinated by journalist and news anchor for Mega Television, Mrs Maria Karhilakis, Palestinian traditional dances were also presented.
